When you travel to the Bahamas there’s an Instagram famous tourist attraction and no, its not because of the impeccable sand or amazing drinks…it’s because of the pigs…yes pigs…you can swim with pigs on Pig island at a local Exuma Beach, and people love it. However, in recent years there have been several stories of these swimming pigs disappearing without a trace. Locals are concerned and worried that the reason these little piggies are not going wee wee wee all the way home is to be blamed on Tiger Sharks.
Tiger sharks have been frequenting the area and now scientists are interested in studying if they are really the ones thinning the heard. This information has caught the attention of marine biologist, and shark scientist Dr. Austin Gallagher. He wants to find out if there is another reason for the missing piglets or have the sharks figured out what we humans already know, pigs are delicious.
We’ll follow Dr. Gallagher to the beaches of Exuma to survey Pig Island and the pigs who call it home. Learning about these swine is only part of the equation as he will need to run experiments and observations on the sharks that surround the island as well. By tagging the sharks as well as the pigs, Austin wants to follow their movements to see if they are coming in contact with each other.
