When horror film producers Blumhouse and reality television production company Ping Pong teamed up to make ‘Stranded’ for Syfy, a new genre of entertainment was born. Hosted and created by Josh Gates, ‘Stranded’ is ‘Big Brother’ meets ‘The Blair Witch Project’. Part paranormal investigation and part psychological experiment, in each hourlong episode, three people are brought to a haunted location and stranded there for a week. The participants are given hand-held video cameras to record the entire experience, and that video — along with footage from strategically placed security cameras and interviews after the fact — is used to create a firsthand account of the experience. Throughout the week, the participants’ feelings of fear, anxiety and isolation increase, offering a gripping look at the effects of being trapped in a terrifying place.
